The Pokemon Company has revealed details about the next Pokemon card set: Scarlet & Violet, coming to stores on March 31st, 2023. This is the first time the English cards will have silver borders like in Japan.
The set will feature 198 cards and Scarlet & Violet will also feature the return of the Pokemon ex mechanic.
Pokemon ex were unique Pokemon that were printed on special holographic cards with a foil stamp underneath them, allowing players to see their shiny versions more easily.
The new strategy was removed from play in 2007 when Wizards of the Coast switched over from using an unlimited print run system (which allowed them to print as many copies as they wanted) to a limited print run system (whereby each card had a strict cap on how many could be produced).
And for the first time ever, English cards will use the same silver borders used in Japan! This will make all your Pokemon look more uniform, regardless of whether you're playing in America or Europe.
Due to increased production costs the price of a booster pack will go from $3.99 USD to $4.49 USD, so to help each pack of Pokemon cards will now feature three guaranteed foil cards per booster pack – all cards with a rarity of Rare or higher will now be foil.
Overall, We are very excited for this new era of Pokemon cards! Be sure to get your orders in at Cherry because the start of a new era always gets collectors ready to buy!
